Night

There’s a particular kind of quiet that comes with photographing at night — out in the dark, miles from anywhere, watching the Milky Way slowly arc across the sky above you. It’s a completely different discipline to my usual dawn chasing, requiring patience, planning, and a fairly high tolerance for cold. But when the conditions align and you nail the shot, there really is nothing quite like it.

This gallery covers night photography from across the South West and beyond — astrophotography, aurora, and long exposures taken in the small hours when most sensible people are fast asleep. Some of these trips involved very long drives and very little sleep. No regrets whatsoever.
