Taken on a bitter November morning, this image captures the Somerset Levels in a rarely seen state — flooded, frozen and bathed in the warm fire of a winter sunrise, with the iconic silhouette of Glastonbury Tor rising through a thin veil of mist on the horizon.
It’s a scene that feels almost otherworldly, the contrast between the blazing sky and the icy stillness of the water giving the image its name: Fire and Ice.
