Trees have always been a constant presence in my photography — from the ancient woodland at Savernake Forest to the fog-draped hedgerows of the Somerset Levels. On those early morning missions chasing mist across Bristol and the South West, it’s often the trees that make the shot: whether they’re emerging from a blanket of fog like something from a dream, or standing bare and bold against a winter sunrise.
Across the South West, trees turn up everywhere in my work — rising out of the mist on a winter morning, punctuating the skyline above the Mendips, or catching the early light in the woods around Bristol on a frosty autumn dawn. This gallery brings together some of my favourites from years of early starts and long walks, taken in the kind of moody, atmospheric conditions that make it all worthwhile.
